Greenpeace has never really been a huge fan of the oil companies. Here’s their take on a new BP-worthy logo. At least in their eyes, anyway.
As much as Greenpeace is probably going ape-shit over what’s happening in the Gulf right now (hell, who shouldn’t be annoyed with that nonsense), this re-brand is directed at the Canadian Tar Sands and the fact that BP is looking to expand their operations there (read the print above the poster carefully). Does it work?

Penguin has collaborated with AIDS awareness fund (RED) and a team of designers to produce new covers for eight Penguin Classics. Each cover replaces the usual black band with red, employing a quote from the text of the book as the visual hit (covers by Coralie Bickford-Smith shown left and Non-Format, right)...
While a repackaging isn't something the Classics series is necessarily crying out for, we particularly like the way that this small run of eight titles has been handled – with the typographic designs occasionally encroaching over the (RED)-inspired band and the link with the organisation brought out in the bracketing of the Penguin Classics identity. Jim Stoddart, art director of Penguin Press plans to use a different typographer for each cover commission and more are planned in the near future.
Three of the eight covers featured here were developed in-house at Penguin Press, with the other covers created by FUEL, Nathan Burton, Studio Frith, Grey318, and Non-Format (whose brilliant take on Bram Stoker's Dracula, in case you have trouble making out the odd word, reads "His eyes were positively blazing. The red light in them was lurid, as if the flames of hell fire blazed behind them." Powerful stuff.

Every year illustration seems to creep into a new facet of our lives, through advertising, fashion, film, magazines, and even election campaigns. As a result, the sheer volume of work being produced and posting online is overwhelming. There are countless websites that follow the latest and greatest, how does one keep track!? Don’t you just wish that someone would take the better stuff and store it somewhere for you? Somewhere permanent, like a coffee table? Maybe in a book?…
Introducing ‘For Love And Money’! Soon to be released by Laurence King Publishing (UK), it outlines the growing role of illustration in today’s creative marketplace. The book captures 417 of the better pieces created over the last couple years, including mini interviews with each illustrator. I’ve gone through it a number of times now and it’s definitely going into my reference library. Be sure to grab a copy from your local design book store, or direct from the Laurence King website once it’s out. Below are a few of my favorites, enjoy!

This work was mentioned in an article on npr this morning. I checked out his site and was really impressed with the hand cast encaustic crayon pieces. The cone shaped ends make for an unusually eerie, blurred blend of colours, would love to see them in person.
Stellar work from a ton of different designers (there’s some really great stuff on there!), but what’s with thewebsite!? I’m not sure if it’s intentionally random or just buggy. At the very least, it forces you to peruse (not awesome if you’re trying to go back to something specific). These two posters are from via grafik and josh vanover (left-to-right).
