Clavilux 2000
from Motion Graphic 2010/03/09 12:09

Clavilux 2000 is the latest project by Jonas Friedemann Heuer who we already mentioned in the post aboutNoteput [vvvv], an interactive music table with tangible notes. Clavilux 2000 is an interactive instrument for generative music visualization created using the graphical programming environment – vvvv. The music visualization consists of a digital piano with 88 keys and midi output, a computer running a vvvv patch and a vertical projection above the keyboard.

For every note played on the keyboard a new visual element appears in form of a stripe, which follows in its dimensions, position and colour the way the particular key was stroke: The length and vertical position show the velocity, the stripe’s width reflects the length of each note. Furthermore the system allows the piano player to switch between the standart 2d view and an additional 3d view of the visualization while playing. Read more..

The Clavilux 2000 project was supervised by Prof. Michael Götte and Veldana Sehic.

Another piece by Reza Ali who we mentioned yesterday (2D SuperShapes). This time around, it’s an audio reactive Processing application simulating a live organism. Make sure you watch it in HD.

This is an audio-reactive algorithmic visual art piece that uses the concept of charged particles and flocking to simulate a organism that is alive and composed of micro-organisms. The movement is rather pleasing thus I decided to exhibit the algorithm in a rather catchy video art fashion.

Audio: Jon Hopkins – “A Drifting Up”

2D SuperShapes is a processing application created by Reza Ali as an experiment to explore making somethingminimal and fun to play. We have already written about supershapes on CAN but in Flash form and 3D. What I especially enjoy about these experiments is their simplicity and boldness. Ability to play with parameters allows you to explore simple transformation, not necessarily always knowing what will come next.

Reza writes: Recently, I have been exploring SuperShapes, which are organic shapes that are rendered by evaluating the superformula with different parameters. This formula creates some beautiful and very organic shapes that can be used in other graphics to make a dynamic graphic composition (either interactive or static). Doing this in Matlab or Mathematica is interesting, but I wanted to make something a little more interactive, minimal and fun to play

To do this, Reza designed a Processing application that can be used to create these shapes and render an image of them at a super high resolution (5333×2100). Also, there is a 3D version in the works which shoul be available soon.

You can download the application here for Mac, Windows and Linux or See more Renders.

Before opening Base’s New York studio, partner Geoff Cook spent 7 years at DKNY. Although that was now 11 years ago, DKNY has periodically re-entered his life. Like yesterday, when this gaggle of models floated by our studio as they were being shot for the new DKNY Cozy campaign.

Werktage

We, the students of the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, Germany, are inviting other students to discuss with them and guests about the current situation and future development of the academic training in our disciplines. The agenda of the werktage comprises workshops, lectures and an Open Space meeting. It will take place from the 21st until the 25th of October 2009.

Recently universities in Germany changed massively. The Bologna Process, the debate about the introduction of tuition fees and the global economic crisis are just a few of the things that have a big impact on the future of our education.

How are we going to deal with that? How does it influence our present situation? How do we want to study in the future? We have to talk about projects that are self initiated, interdisciplinary, sustainable and have a big social interest. So all in all werktage is supposed to be more then a meeting – an event which connects people and their ideas in order to create something new.

Werktage is organized by Anja Kaiser and Christoph Knoth
